Our head coach, Steve, has been in discussions with the head coach from Canvey Island Swimming Club, Paul McNeil, with regard to competing in the Essex Swimming League in the 2015 season.
The Essex Swimming League is a team competition, where swimmers from four age groups (11 and under, 13 and under, 15 and under, and Open) will compete against five other clubs within Essex over four competitions. Races are a mix of individual and relays. The competition runs from February to May, each gala is a Saturday evening.
Runnymede and Canvey Island Swimming Club entered their own squads into this competition for many years, however, recently both clubs have again struggled to provide enough swimmers in all age categories to enter. By selecting swimmers from across our two clubs, our head coaches, endorsed by both committee chairs, feel this joint venture will be a good and positive way to advance swimming in Castle Point. For our swimmers, this will widen their experience of competitions, through team competing, which will be positive and enjoyable for them.
Swimmers will be jointly selected by both Head Coaches based on current times, ability to cope with competition environment and availability.
For the League, we will be marketed as the Castle Point Squad. The League requires registration under a recognised ASA Club, so in this instance the new squad is registered as Canvey Island Swimming Club.
